The Word of Life Community receives its name and vocation from the first episte of Saint John (1 John 1: 1-4) :
« That which was from the beginning , which we have heard,
which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched
-this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
The life appeared;
we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.
We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard,
so that you also may have fellowship with us.
And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
We write this to make our joy complete. »
Contemplative and missionary
A la vez contemplativa y misionaria, la vocación de la congregación es contemplar a Cristo, Palabra de Dios que da la vida, vivirla en comunidad y anunciarla al mundo.
Elle participe à la mission de l’Eglise, là où elle est implantée. A l’exemple de la première communauté chrétienne, elle désire vivre la radicalité de l’Evangile dans la docilité à l’Esprit-Saint.

The Community was founded in 1986 in the Abbey of Aubazine, in France.
Ses statuts canoniques définitifs ont été approuvés le 29 juillet 2007 par Monseigneur Bernard Charrier, évêque de Tulle (en Corrèze).
